TANF is the cash assistance program for very low income families in Virginia. The purpose of the program is to help needy adults take care of their families and become self-sufficient.

Apply at local DSS to fill out an application and complete an interview with an eligibility worker.

Family must include a child, be needy, and satisfy "good conduct" requirements, low income.
